The GFFT Board of Directors held elections for expiring terms and added two new members at its recent meeting held at Peak 10’s spanking new building in Alpharetta.

Lisa Thurston, who has been serving as Secretary to the Board, has become a member of the Board. Lisa is a longtime supporter of the FairTax and has an extensive background in project management with some of Atlanta’s best known companies, including Delta Airlines, SunTrust, and Fiserve. She’s managed large-scale needs assessment, hardware and software implementations, and other IT-related projects. Lisa will serve as the official record keeper for various GFFT activities.

Alan Abrash, who has been serving as GFFT’s Treasurer, was also elected to the Board. Al has decades of experience as a financial executive. He recently retired from his position as Director of Budgeting and Financial Planning for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, although he will continue to serve the organization as its Treasurer. Al shares a mutual enthusiasm for aviation with GFFT’s COO, Tom Brown.

Greg Bleakley was also elected to the Board. Greg is the organizer and energetic leader of the successful Athens FairTax Club. He has shown everyone how much can be accomplished with some dedication and hard work.

Three incumbent Board members were re-elected to additional 3 year terms: Bill Fogarty, Jim Duffie and Linda Menk. Fogarty and Duffie will continue into 2015 in their roles as Chairman and State Director respectively. Board members serve three years terms on a staggered basis. As the year-end approaches, there’s a lot going on in our movement and plenty of work to be done before the new year begins. We’re excited to add some new faces to the Board as well as benefit from the continued service of experienced incumbents.

Bill Reister completed his term on the Board, and we sincerely thank him for his service. Although his term on the Board is over, Bill will stay involved as our Director of Technology.

Our thanks to Peak 10 for allowing us to use their state-of-the-art facility for our board meetings.
