We
gathered 113 signatures. I was kind of disappointed by that
but when you stop and think that was 25 signatures an hour
it ís really not that bad. Most everyone that signed
the petition was very enthusiastic and wished us well.
We did have a couple of candidates sign the petition. John
Aurelia who is running for County Solicitor in Gwinnett County
signed as well as his wife, father and the rest of the workers
in his group. Ralph Reed was there working the crowd and he
signed. Casey Cagle was there but we were never able catch
him to get
him to sign the petition.
By the
time the fireworks began it was elbow to elbow. This was pretty
spread out as it covered S. Peachtree, Jones Street and the
area around the park. That may have contributed to our lower
than expected signatures. I will be looking into the Fall
Festival shortly. That will be the first weekend in October
and won't be so HOT!
I did
not sell any of the soft cover editions of the Fair Tax Book
so if anyone is looking for some I have a deal for them.
One of the more exciting things that happened, at least to
me, was that the Chairman of the Gwinnett County Republicans
came by the booth and ask that we pass the following information
along to as many people as possible and urge people to get
out to the polls on the 18th. He was able to get 3 questions
on the ballot and itís important that there be a big
turnout to send a message to Washington. He was not able to
get it state wide but he did get it on the ballot in nine
counties. I forgot to ask which nine but he did say Gwinnett
and Cobb would have them on their ballot. Probably the Atlanta
metro counties but I'm not
sure.
The questions are:
1. Would you support the current tax code being replaced by
House Resolution 25 / The Fair Tax?
2. Do you support a guest worker / amnesty program for illegal
aliens?
3. Do you think that the borders should be secured before
anything else?
This is not the text verbatim on the ballot but close. They
expect a 90% yes vote on the Fair Tax. Possibly higher. He
said that they felt this would give John more ammunition to
try and get this passed. A number of people emphasized that
they felt the Fair Tax should be a key issue in November in
every state. I agree. We had a great time and Iím looking
forward to doing it again in October. The October crowd will
be different. Probably more mature and people will be moving
around more rather than trying to snag a spot for the fireworks. |
