We (Don
and Lyn Williamson) luckily made it into this event due to
a cancellation of another vendor. It started this morning
at 10:00 a.m. and lasted until 5:00 p.m. We had a very successful
day and were able to sign up 169 FairTax petitioners.
Even while we were setting up, we had other vendors asking
for the petition and we believe there is a tremendous amount
of support for the Fair Tax.
More importantly, we let the local Conyers and Rockdale supporters
that there is now an official Fair
Tax presence to help them in coordinating their own events.
It should be noted that I had a chance to talk with candidate
Hank Johnson (D) who is running for the 4th Congressional
District and who also is officially non-committed. He was
surprised to learn that there were in fact Democratic co-sponsors
of H.R. 25 and said he would review the scorecard again. He
did seem to understand that the issue is an American issue
and not a political one.
Lessons learned-
1. People that have never heard of the Fair Tax were more
willing to sign when they understood that this was not a Democratic,
Republican, Green, or any other party, but it was an American
issue for Americans.
2. Don't let people just walk by if they say they support
the Fair Tax. Ask them if they have ever signed the official
petition and they will go racing to the table.
3 There is a great deal of interest for a petition to the
Georgia General Assembly and the Governor to do away with
our own state income tax, and maybe this is where the GAFAIRTAX.ORG
becomes the
main engine to drive this desire.
