"Dare to be Fair II"
FairTax Rally
Ames, Iowa, Aug. 11, 2007

Inside the air conditioned FairTax tent. The stage and band are off camera to the right. Inside the air conditioned FairTax tent, there was plenty of free, good food. What better way to introduce someone to the FairTax than while they are waiting in line for a funnel cake or ice cream cone. The tent stayed packed with people all day.

Impressions

I did not have the opportunity to look at all the events and all thecandidates' campaign tents like I wanted to because we were working every minute for FairTax. I believe what impressed me the most was how many Iowa people came out in the heat to vote. The people of Iowa, I found, are wonderful, and I felt as at home as in Dahlonega.

Neal Boortz spoke inside our FairTax tent, and in the packed audience were a lot of yellow-shirted Mitt
Romney supporters. Neal charged them with the task of helping us change their candidate's position on FairTax, and most of them responded very positively. Neal also gave his view on why some of the leading candidates, like Romney and Giuliani, are not supporting FairTax. He believes that on their campaign staffs they have tax advisers that look at FairTax as a threat to their future jobs, and therefore, they have advised their bosses not to support the bill. I don't know if this is true or not, but it does seem logical.

I believe the other thing that impressed me the most were the FairTax volunteers in Ames. It seems no matter where I go, from South Carolina to Iowa, a love of country and a passion to make a positive contribution to its future resonates in us all. I am always left with a warm feeling of solidarity with everyone I meet.
